Kal Bhairav
Kal Bhairav

The huge north-facing stone image of Kal Bhairav is undated but it was set in its present location by King Pratap Malla after it was found in Raniban, a field north of the city of Kathmandu. Some art historians believe that the icon is from the 7th or 8th century. The image of Bhairav represents god Shiva is his destructive manifestation. A remarkable fact about this icon is that it was made from one rock. It is believed that lying before Kal Bhairav will make one spit blood and die instantly. Kal Bhairav is popular among the Hindus as the god of justice.
